Carbon pricing has for many years been on the fringes of domestic and international tax policy, and the tax system places little focus on taxing activities which contribute to climate change. Might we see a change in stance over the coming years to help the UK to reach its emissions reduction targets (and pay off covid-19 public debts)? Companies need to ensure they are watching the airwaves here and helping to shape future policy. The government should set out a roadmap for climate change tax policy, to help companies to make the long-term decisions that are required.
