Timothy Lloyd former head of group taxation at Woolworths Group reviews the findings of our in-house tax survey
Summer 2009 saw the first general survey of in-house tax departments conducted by The Tax Journal in conjunction with Brewer Morris. It should be no surprise that companies consider tax to be a significant business cost and like all costs this is one to be controlled and reduced wherever possible even more so in the current economic climate. This raises the question 'are in-house tax departments under boardroom pressure to cut both their own costs and their employers' tax burdens?' This general survey attempts to throw light on both that question and also some of the issues facing in-house tax teams.
