In 2011 the UK’s online retail sales exceeded £50bn for the first time (according to the Centre for Retail Research) easily eclipsing all other EU countries. This represents about 12% of all UK retail sales in the year and that figure is forecast to grow by another 14% in 2012. When online business-to-business (B2B) sales are added to the mix it becomes clear that e-commerce has evolved into the fastest growing channel not only for ordering goods and services but also for making payments in respect of those supplies.
