The UK’s substantial shareholdings exemption (SSE) applies, in certain circumstances, to exempt gains arising on the disposal of shares by corporate shareholders. SSE plays an important role in making the UK an attractive place to do business but the government acknowledges that the complexities of the current regime may be impacting the UK’s competitiveness and is therefore consulting on potential reform of the regime.
