On 10 February 2020, HMRC released a public statement confirming that there are nine live investigations concerning the corporate criminal offences of failure to prevent facilitation of tax evasion and a further 21 ‘opportunities’ under review. Additionally, many thousands of taxpayers are waiting to see how the revisions to the April 2019 loan charge will affect them, including those taxpayers who have already settled with HMRC. We have noticed in recent months a more interventionist approach from the tribunal and a tendency to dispose of certain case management issues administratively.
