Exchequer secretary to the Treasury, David Gauke, spoke at HMRC’s stakeholder conference on compliance on 7 November. Gauke said that the public and media debate around tax compliance has often ‘lacked balance’, ‘been misinformed’, and ‘involved significant scaremongering’ when what ‘we want to achieve [is] a balance between delivering increasing amounts of tax revenues ... while making sure that Britain becomes increasingly a great place to do business’.
