Dominic Taylor who died on 18 January made a distinguished contribution to the evolution of value added tax. However his influence and professional life went far beyond the confines of that tax.
Dominic was educated at Battersea Grammar School but instead of taking up a proffered place to read classics at University College London he spent a number of years travelling before settling down in 1975. In that year he married Leila a partnership which was to last throughout his life and also joined HM Customs & Excise. He was to spend ten years at Customs deepening his skills by taking a Higher National Certificate in Business Studies in his own time and ultimately rising to the grade of HEO. His work there was varied and included both investigation and control....
