Election analysis – Environmental taxes

Speed read

Speed Read: All three parties have a strong message on how to tackle climate change. The Conservatives' proposals include replacing the Climate Change Levy with a new Carbon Levy, and introducing a new Airline Pollution Duty to replace Air Passenger Duty. The Liberal Democrats have also proposed the substantial alteration (or even replacement) of the Climate Change Levy and the Renewables Obligation. The Labour Party manifesto is light on details with regard to taxes it envisages in this regard, but if Labour wins the election, it is likely that it too would introduce new green taxes or reform the existing ones to raise money.
