In recent months there have been several reports about delays in making repayments of income tax. Whilst some of the delays earlier in the year were linked to the substantial growth in online filing in January a key contributory factor has been a rise in the scale of attempted fraud which requires HMRC to carry out enhanced security checks to protect customers and public money against fraudulent repayment claims.
