I am delighted to be the first of your occasional correspondents from Australia and in this brief note hope to be able to provide some observations about the Australian taxation environment that may be useful to practitioners acting for UK groups with operations in Australia or acting for UK-based Australian operations and those generally interested in what is happening in Australia.
Notwithstanding my name I am in fact a born and bred Australian with UK parentage of course having just exited the life of a Tax Director for a multinational Australian financial services company with significant UK operations.
