New UK/USA Tax Treaty

So it has happened at last. The long awaited UK/USA Double Taxation Agreement finally came into force on 31 March 2003. The Treaty had been signed during the summer of 2001 and was awaiting ratification at the time of the sad events of 11 September in that year. Subsequent to these dramatic events an Amending Protocol was drawn up in the summer of 2002. This Protocol swept up some previously overlooked USA withholding tax issues concerning USA equities in certain pooled investment vehicles. The Treaty1 now encompasses both Protocols and follows soundly the OECD Model Tax Convention.
