How did you end up in tax?
A mixture of fate and fortuitous accident I would say. My father was a tax accountant and I sometimes joke that where other people had bedtime stories about Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty I had Mr and Mrs Smith and their offshore trading company! Then in the course of my training contract I had the opportunity to spend a significant amount of time in the tax department and absolutely loved it and I’ve never looked back.
Who in tax do you most admire?
Charles Hellier – he is a tax tribunal judge now but before that he was a Partner at Linklaters for many years. I admire his phenomenal enthusiasm and memory for case law. I could ask him about anything and he would say ‘I seem to remember a case...’ and he...
