A quick Q&A with Mark Dyson, head of tax at Debenhams
How did you end up in tax?
Completely by accident! I applied for a general finance role but the recruiter who picked up my CV had been asked to supply someone for a vacancy on the Arthur Andersen ET graduate course. A few days later I was training in Chicago. In my career since I’ve worked in industry mostly on VAT in the ‘big four’ on CT and in investment banking and HMRC on CT and international issues so I probably count as an all-rounder by now.
Who in tax do you most admire?
I thought about this quite hard and no one individual leapt out. In my career I have met a large number of talented staff; not just the often very well-paid stars at the top of the profession...
