How did you end up in tax?
By accident. A friend had started working for KPMG and I read their glossy brochure about working in tax and thought I can do that. I contacted a recruitment agent and within a week I had a job as junior in the tax department of Milne Ross (now Baker Tilly).
What advice would you give to someone entering the profession?
Always check the legislation and never forget to set out the worst case scenario.
What’s your view on the statutory residence test?
The new rules are more clear cut but it is important to ensure that clients understand the ‘sufficient tie’ rules and that you can now fall foul of the new rules much more easily.
