How did you end up in tax?

I had never thought about being a tax lawyer but it was my first seat when I trained to be a solicitor and I had the good fortune to share an office with our new tax assurance commissioner Edward Troup who was my supervisor. Edward’s enthusiasm for tax spilled over to me and I had such fantastic experience in that seat that the rest of my training really couldn’t compare.

What advice would you give to someone entering the profession?

Understand that it’s not just about being good at solving tax problems. Being a good communicator and being able to market yourself effectively are just as important.

What work is keeping you busy?

It’s a really mixed bag. I’ve just taken a VAT case to tribunal and won (so far!) and I am currently heading...
