What attracted you to the Tax Bar?
I was initially attracted to the Bar: the unpredictable lifestyle and the work it offered. I worked predominantly in tax only after I had spent a good deal of time appearing in different kinds of courts all over the place. One thing I did not like about the Bar was that it appeared very domestic at that time. Fortunately much of the modern Bar is anything but domestic and I’ve managed to develop a practice with clients all over the world.
Aside from your immediate colleagues whom in tax do you most admire?
I doubt the people I most admire would appreciate being admired especially in public. I have to mention though the first person ever to lead me in a tax case – Sir Stephen Oliver QC. He had a very influential role in my early career....
