The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has launched a consultation Subsidy control: designing a new approach for the UK on proposals for a new UK-wide subsidy control system which would depart from the EU state aid regime and aim to enable ‘more flexible and tailored financial support to businesses’. The proposals would empower local authorities, public bodies, and the devolved administrations in Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast to allocate subsidies according to a consistent set of underlying principles. The consultation will close at 11.45pm on 31 March 2021.
