Looking back over a tax career of almost 60 years, it is difficult to overstate how much the UK tax landscape has changed during that period. Tax today is characterised by a much more complex tax code, increased specialisation within the profession and a tax authority that is far less helpful to taxpayers than the Inland Revenue of old. It nonetheless offers a fulfilling career for someone not deterred by the demands of lifelong learning.
