The taxation of R&D in the UK

Ashley Greenbank and Elizabeth Keeling examine the extent to which the government has implemented recommendations in the Dyson Review. Rex Vevers gives a business view (below) on R&D incentives.

In March 2010 Sir James Dyson published a review entitled Ingenious Britain. The review which had been sponsored by the Conservative Party set out proposals – in various spheres cultural educational and financial – to support the technology sector with the stated aim of making Britain the leading high-tech exporter in Europe.

Taxing recommendations

The Dyson Review included a number of recommendations to improve the UK’s business culture and education. But it also made some recommendations for changes to tax legislation to encourage investment in high-tech companies.
