I started writing for The Tax Journal soon after its foundation and eventually became a regular columnist continuing until I reached the age of 70. But I had always been a freelance writer on legal subjects at every stage of my career. When just out of the egg as a pupil barrister in the early 1960s I would cover for the Times Law Reports cases in which my pupil master appeared. One such became a leading authority of that era on defended divorce with lengthy cross-allegations of all kinds of cruelty and other matrimonial offences.
